Map My Run (often written MapMyRun) is one of the oldest running apps around. It is free to download, and you can track every run without paying. But it is a “freemium” app: some features sit behind a paid plan called MVP. Here is exactly what is free, what MVP adds, what it costs in the US, UK and Australia, and how it compares with other running apps, as of November 2026.
What you get in Map My Run for free
| Feature | Free? |
|---|---|
| GPS tracking of distance, pace, elevation and calories | |
| Save routes and find routes nearby or when travelling | |
| Tracking for 600+ activity types, plus audio feedback | |
| Apple Watch app (watchOS 8.7 or later) | |
| Sync with Garmin and other wearables, and progress in Apple Health | |
| Live Tracking (share your location with chosen contacts)MVP | |
| Training plans that adapt to your fitnessMVP | |
| Heart rate zone monitoringMVP | |
| Goal-based audio coaching (pace, cadence, distance)MVP |
From the US and Australian App Store listings, checked November 2, 2026. The listing does not label every feature, so the free/MVP split follows its “MVP premium features” section. The US listing is rated 4.8 from about 757K ratings.
For most casual runners the free version is enough. It records your runs with GPS, shows distance, pace, elevation and calories, and lets you save routes or find new ones when you travel. The Apple Watch app is part of the free download, and the listing says you can follow your progress across apps like Apple Health.
What Map My Run MVP adds
The App Store listing groups these under “MVP premium features” as of November 2026:
- Live Tracking, which shares your location with people you choose while you run. Handy for early-morning or solo runs.
- Training plans that adapt as your fitness improves.
- Heart rate zone monitoring that adjusts your training.
- Goal-based audio coaching on pace, cadence, distance and more.
How much is Map My Run MVP?
| Store | Monthly MVP | Annual MVP | Offer |
|---|---|---|---|
| US App Store | $7.99 or $9.99 | $29.99 to $49.99 | $27.99 (one year, 30% off) |
| UK App Store | £5.99 to £9.99 | £22.99 to £39.99 | £29.99 (one year, 30% off) |
| Australian App Store | $12.99 or $14.99 | $43.99 to $79.99 | $44.99 (one year, 30% off) |
In-app purchase prices as listed on each App Store page, checked November 2, 2026. The Australian page shows prices in Australian dollars. Prices can change and tax may be added.
Why so many prices? The App Store lists several MVP products at once, and the one you see in the app depends on the offer at the time. So the honest answer for US runners is “about $30 to $50 a year, or $8 to $10 a month.” Paying yearly is much cheaper than monthly. If you subscribe through Apple, you can cancel in your iPhone’s Settings under your Apple ID.

Who owns Map My Run now?
Under Armour owned Map My Run for years. On August 30, 2024, Outside Interactive completed its purchase of MapMyFitness, including Map My Run, Map My Ride and Map My Walk. At the time Outside said MapMyFitness had more than 80 million registered users, and that Outside+ members would get premium benefits from the apps as they were brought in over the following months. If you already pay for Outside+, check whether MVP is included for you before buying it separately.

| ASICS Runkeeper | Tracking, audio cues | GO $39.99/yr | See GO upgrade |

Prices from the US App Store listings for Nike Run Club and ASICS Runkeeper, and strava.com/subscribe, as of October 2026. Prices can change and tax may be added.
The big difference is training plans. Nike Run Club gives its plans away free in nine countries, while Map My Run keeps its adaptive plans for MVP. adidas Running works the same way as Map My Run: free tracking, paid plans. If you mostly want to log runs, every free version here does the job.
Is Map My Run free in the UK and Australia?
Yes. The app is free to download in both, and the free features are the same. MVP is priced in local currency (see the table above). The UK listing is rated 4.8 from about 167K ratings and the Australian listing 4.8 from about 41K, as of November 2026. If you run parkrun, the free version is enough to record your Saturday 5K, though your official time still comes from parkrun. Wondering how your time stacks up? See is a 25-minute 5K good or is a 30-minute 5K good.
Is Map My Run MVP worth it?
It depends on the feature you want. Live Tracking is the strongest reason to pay if you often run alone and want someone at home to see where you are. Adaptive plans are nice, but you can get free plans elsewhere: Nike Run Club in nine countries, plus our free couch to 5K plan and beginner half marathon plan. If you mostly want to see your distance, pace and routes, the free version already does that well. And if you want to see what your pace means, the pace calculator is free too.
