What is the Run-Walk Method?
Popularized by Olympian Jeff Galloway, the run-walk-run method is a strategy that involves taking planned walking breaks during a run or race before you get fatigued.
Why do runners use it?
- Injury prevention: Alternating muscle usage reduces repetitive stress load.
- Faster overall times: Many runners find they finish a marathon faster using this method because they avoid "hitting the wall" late in the race.
- Mental breaks: A long race feels less daunting when broken down into manageable 3-minute or 4-minute intervals.
