adidas Running is the app many runners still call Runtastic. It is free to download, and you can track every run without paying. But it is a “freemium” app: some features sit behind a Premium membership. Here is exactly what is free, what Premium adds, the adiClub shortcut to Premium, and how it compares with other running apps, as of November 2026.

From the adidas Running App Store listing and adidas’s help centre pages What is Premium? and Where can I use Premium?, checked November 1, 2026. The US listing is rated 4.8 from about 109K ratings.
For most casual runners the free version is enough. It records your runs with GPS, shows your route, pace and history, and lets you join challenges and virtual races. Tracking also earns points in adiClub, adidas’s free loyalty program.
What adidas Running Premium adds
adidas’s help centre describes Premium as a paid membership with extra features. As of November 2026 it lists:
- All training plans, for beginners, race prep, weight loss and general fitness.
- Story Runs, audio stories that play while you run, and interval training.
- Advanced statistics and personal records.
- Auto pause, which stops the clock at traffic lights. Many free apps include this, so it is a common complaint in reviews.
How much is adidas Running Premium?
This is the tricky part. adidas does not publish a Premium price on its website, and the App Store listing did not show a list of in-app purchases when we checked on November 1, 2026. Third-party price trackers report anything from about $30 to $50 a year in the US in 2026, which tells you the price changes by country and over time. The honest answer: open the app, tap a Premium feature, and the price for your country appears before you pay. If you subscribe through Apple, you can cancel in your iPhone’s Settings under your Apple ID.

The adiClub shortcut: Premium for free
adidas’s help centre says members in the upper levels of adiClub get adidas Running Premium at no cost. adiClub is free to join, and you can sign up inside the Running app. You move up levels by earning points, and tracking workouts in the app is one way to earn them. If you already shop with adidas, check your adiClub level before you pay for Premium.
adidas Running vs other running apps
| App | Free part | Paid (US) | Training plans |
|---|---|---|---|
| adidas Running | Tracking, challenges, virtual races | Premium; price shown in the app | Full library is Premium |
| Nike Run Club | Everything | No paid tier listed | Free (9 countries) |
| Strava | Tracking, feed, clubs | $79.99/yr | Paid, via Runna |
| ASICS Runkeeper | Tracking, audio cues | GO $39.99/yr | See GO upgrade |
| Run&Grow | Every run grows a plant | Free to download on iPhone | Not a plan app |
Prices from the US App Store listings for Nike Run Club and ASICS Runkeeper, and strava.com/subscribe, as of October 2026. Prices can change and tax may be added.
The big difference is training plans. Nike Run Club gives its plans away free in nine countries, while adidas keeps the full plan library for Premium. If you mostly want to log runs and join challenges, both free versions do the job. If you want the social side, Strava’s free account is the most popular.
Is adidas Running free in the UK and Australia?
Yes. The app is free to download in both, and the free features are the same. Premium is priced in your local currency inside the app. In the UK the App Store listing is rated 4.7 from about 23K ratings as of November 2026. If you run parkrun, the free version is enough to record your Saturday 5K, though your official time still comes from parkrun. Curious how your time compares? See is a 30-minute 5K good or is a 12-minute mile good.
A short history: from Runtastic to adidas Running
Runtastic was started in Austria in 2009. adidas bought it in 2015 and renamed the Runtastic app adidas Running in 2019. adidas shut down its separate adidas Training app on March 31, 2024, and moved Running app work to its own offices. adidas Running itself is still on the App Store as of November 2026 (sources: Wikipedia and the App Store listing).
Is adidas Running Premium worth it?
It depends on what you want from an app. Premium makes sense if you like adidas Running, want a structured plan for a 5K, 10K or half marathon, and are happy to pay for one inside the app you already use. It is harder to justify if you only want plans: Nike Run Club gives its plans away free in nine countries, and our couch to 5K plan and beginner half marathon plan are free too. If you mostly want to log runs and see your pace, the free version already does that well. Before paying, check your adiClub level, because Premium may already be included.
