The simple rule: if you will use Runna for more than six months, the yearly plan is cheaper. A 16-week half marathon or marathon block on the monthly plan costs about four months, which is $79.96 in the US or £63.96 in the UK.

What is free on Runna?

Runna is only partly free. Without paying you get:

  • Week 1 of any plan, so you can see how it feels.
  • Run recording and your completed workouts.

Everything after Week 1 needs Runna Premium. That includes the beginner plans. New to Running, Return to Running and Path to parkrun were free until 5 June 2026, when they moved behind the paywall. Runners who had already started one could finish it. So if an older article says Runna’s beginner plan is free, it is out of date.

Does Runna do a Black Friday sale?

Searches for “runna black friday sale” are rising fast in Google Trends this month. But we could not find a confirmed, official Runna Black Friday sale for 2025. What we did find: in Australia, runners on OzBargain reported 30% and 20% discount codes for a 12-month gift card between September and November 2025, and some used a discounted Apple gift card to pay.

So our advice for Black Friday 2026 (Friday 27 November):

  1. Do not start a trial too early. A 7-day trial started now will charge you before Black Friday.
  2. Watch the app and your email in the last week of November.
  3. Compare against the bundle and student prices below. They may beat any sale.

4 ways to pay less for Runna

Pay yearly

The yearly plan works out to about half the monthly price. In the US that is $119.99 a year against $239.88 for twelve months of monthly billing.

Use a longer free trial

Runna gives 7 days free when you sign up in the app or on its website. A referral code from a friend gives 2 weeks, and buying through the Strava app can give 14 days if you have never trialled either app.

Student discount

UNiDAYS lists 20% off Runna’s 12-month plan for students (checked October 2026). Student Beans also has a Runna page in some countries.

Bundle with Strava

If you also want Strava, the Strava + Runna bundle is $149.99 or £119.99 a year. That is about $50 less than buying both yearly plans on their own.

Is Runna worth the money?

Runna is worth it if you have a race date and want a plan that changes as you get fitter, with pace targets for every session. It is less worth it if you are just starting out or only want to run a few times a week for fun. In that case the free options do the job:

  • Brand new to running: the free NHS Couch to 5K app. See our couch to 5K app comparison.
  • Want a coach in your ear: Nike Run Club is free with audio guided runs.
  • Own a Garmin: Garmin Coach plans are free.
  • Need motivation more than a plan: Run&Grow is free on iPhone and grows a plant for every run. It reads runs from Apple Health, so you can even use it next to Runna.
